A few thoughts for teachers
The teacher guide has been written using the language and concepts of relevant subjects in the NSW HSC and the Victorian VCE. Perhaps not surprisingly, there were many consistencies between the states' documents. The teacher guide avoids using learning outcomes as these tend to be far too specific and do not adequately reflect the student centred research that has become an important part of the senior years (Years 10-12) in both states.
Dairy CRC: For teachers This document outlines the educational possibilities of the Dairy CRC website and how you can use it with your students.
What's it all about?
The Cooperative Research Centre for Innovative Dairy Products (Dairy CRC) is a research project set up by the Australian dairy industry and the Federal Government. It is applying gene technologies to improve Australia's dairy herd productivity and to create new milk products for the global market.
- This website provides an important overview of the issues, initiatives and people involved in this research.
- It introduces the ideas and new understandings that are reshaping the dairy industry.
- It provides some background to the ethical issues as well as outlining the business and career opportunities that are associated with these changes.
How can it be used?
The Dairy CRC project is multidimensional. It links new scientific knowledge and techniques with new business opportunities, so the material on this site has relevance to many subjects at Years 10, 11 or 12.
The site is a valuable resource that you can use to introduce senior students to biotechnology in the 'real world' and the way its application could change and reshape the practices, businesses and organisations that make up the industry.
The content and focus of the site can be contextualised thematically. Six possible themes are outlined below. Themes for Inquiries
