Outreach Program Part of the Dairy CRC's mission is to assist dairy farmers and the wider community to understand the new genetic technologies and their potential to benefit Australian agribusiness.
Biotechnology Workshop for Industry The Dairy CRC contributes to CSIRO's IndustryLink Gene Technology Workshop. The workshop is designed to help farmers understand this advancing field of research and how it might impact on their businesses. It aims to assist farmers to address gene technology issues more effectively, and to be actively involved in the industry's decision-making processes.
Participants learn about the scientific and technical basis of gene technology and its relation to traditional agriculture. The workshop also provides information on the Australian regulatory system that controls gene technology products, commercialisation issues, opportunities and benefits offered by gene technology, potential risks and safety issues and how they are managed, and public attitudes and concerns.
Over 40 dairy farmers have undertaken the course including Taree dairy farmer Jamie Drury (pictured above). The Dairy CRC and Dairy Australia can subsidise dairy farmers to participate in the workshop. For more information, contact gabrielle.sheehan@dairycrc.com
